The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program at Stanford University cultivates a diverse, multidisciplinary community of future leaders from around the world and trains them to collaborate, invent, and communicate in preparation to address society’s most challenging challenges.
Through community experiences, workshops, meetings with leaders, domestic and international study excursions, and personal development opportunities, the King Global Leadership Program enables students to increase their knowledge, improve their abilities, and strengthen their character. The Knight-Hennessy Scholars represent all seven Stanford schools. Knight-Hennessy Scholars are gifted individuals and comprise a community of scholars from a variety of disciplines. The programme provides a framework for deliberate leadership development and equips you to have a global beneficial effect.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program Benefits
- Knight-Hennessy scholars receive funding for up to three years for any graduate degree(s) at Stanford. During each of the first 3 years of graduate study, Knight-Hennessy Scholars receive:
- The fellowship applied directly to cover tuition and associated fees:
* a stipend for living and academic expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses)
* a travel grant intended to cover an economy-class ticket for one annual trip to and from Stanford
Additional funding specific to certain years:
- Newly enrolled scholars are given a one-time relocation payment to help with some of the expenses of moving to the region and/or purchasing new technology. Scholars in their second and third years may submit an application for additional funding to support extracurricular activities (e.g., conference travel).

Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program Eligibility Criteria
There are two baseline eligibility requirements.
To begin, in addition to submitting an application to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS), you are required to submit an application to, be accepted by, and enrol in a full-time graduate degree programme at Stanford. This programme can be any of the following: DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or PhD programmes. You need to be able to check off at least one of the following four requirements:
Both KHS and a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford have received your applications, and you plan to start both in the same academic year.
Or, individuals who have already been admitted to a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford but have deferred their enrolment. Applicants intend to apply to KHS in a manner that will allow them to commence both programmes in the same school year.
People who are currently enrolled in a graduate program at Stanford and intend to apply for a second full-time graduate degree program there. And if accepted, scholars will start both the KHS and other programs in the same school year.
Scholars in their first year of a PhD program at Stanford who wish to apply to KHS in a manner that would have them start their studies at KHS in their second year of the PhD program
Second, candidates must have graduated from an accredited college or institution in the United States with a bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent after January 1, 2016, in order to be considered for the scholarship. To be eligible to apply to join the cohort in 2023, you need to have received your bachelor’s degree no earlier than January 2016, and to be eligible to join the cohort in 2024, you need to have received your bachelor’s degree no earlier than January 2017, respectively.
How to Apply
If scholars want to be considered for the scholarship, they have to submit an application to both the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program and the graduate school at Stanford that they want to enrol in at the same time. Only then will you be considered. The Knight Hennessy Program has a submission cutoff date and time of 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time on October 12, 2022.
