The McDonald fellowships are of two types. The first is the MSIF-ECTRIMS McDonald Fellowship, awarded in partnership with ECTRIMS (European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis). The other one is the MSIF-ARSEP McDonald Fellowship, awarded in partnership with ARSEP, an MSIF member.

Eligibility Criteria for the McDonald Fellowships
- Candidates must be at the postgraduate level. Must have at least MSc or preferably PhD/MD in a field relevant to multiple sclerosis.
- According to the World Bank, they must be a citizen of a low- or middle-income country.
- They must have research in an area relevant to multiple sclerosis.
- Candidates must also be working or studying in a low- or middle-income country defined by the world at the time of nomination.
- Candidates must be studying or working in another country on a project which started six months prior to nomination.
- An MS International Federation grant must support the project of study in another country.
